More Hand-Colored Photographs

Before

After

So I still have a lot to learn about hand-coloring, but I'm having such a fun time doing it! I'm focusing a lot on how to make the colors even and not blotchy, which is what I'm definitely struggling with the most... but I'll get there! Coloring in lips are also SO hard; the marker is bulky, and lips are very detailed and thin, so that's another challenge!

All the Pretty Masks

Hand-Coloring

Hand-Coloring

I really enjoy masks in photography. By omitting the subject's expression, you are forced to imagine a story based on the surroundings and the subjects' actions. Plus, they look really cool. I've worked with the same mask in two different scenarios: in a more posed, "headshot" type of setting, and in a more natural every-day environment. I think both settings make very different statements, and have very different effects on the message the mask sends.

The first three pictures are also hand-colored with special markers. I'm in the experimental stages right now, so none of the hand-colored pictures are perfect yet, but I'm working that direction!
