All the Pretty Masks

Hand-Coloring

I really enjoy masks in photography. By omitting the subject's expression, you are forced to imagine a story based on the surroundings and the subjects' actions. Plus, they look really cool. I've worked with the same mask in two different scenarios: in a more posed, "headshot" type of setting, and in a more natural every-day environment. I think both settings make very different statements, and have very different effects on the message the mask sends.

The first three pictures are also hand-colored with special markers. I'm in the experimental stages right now, so none of the hand-colored pictures are perfect yet, but I'm working that direction!
